Pick your patch of shore.
Dūmezers is the smoke-lake — the mist sits on it until nine. On its reed shore we keep four lake houses, six van plots and eight tent pitches. The map knows which are free for your dates, and the one you choose is the one you get.
13 of 18 berths free for 14 Aug – 17 Aug
The same price as the listing sites — booked here, the 18% they would take stays at the lake.
The lake, from above.
Every berth, where it actually stands. Press a marker to see the place, its price, and whether it is free for your dates — the spot you claim is exactly the spot you get.
The illustrated map is decorative. Every berth on it is also in the list further down the page, with the same availability and claim buttons.

Any of the eighteen — the taken ones will tell you when they free up, and the closed ones when their season opens.
All eighteen, by name.
The same berths as the map, in a list — one kind at a time, with what each one costs and whether it is free for your dates.

Mornings here have a routine.
- The sauna is fired at seven
- The pier sauna is lit at seven. You sweat, you take the ladder into the lake, and you understand why we never built a pool.
- The smoke lifts by nine
- The lake is named for its mist — dūmi, smoke. It sits on the water until nine most mornings and then it is simply gone.
- Rowboats before breakfast
- Every house has a rowboat tied below the porch. Out before breakfast, the water is glass and the only sound is the oars.
Same price. Different destination.

Book here and the €73 a platform would have taken stays at the lake — it is why the sauna evening costs what it costs, and why the firewood is dry. You also pick the exact berth: a listing site sells you “a tent pitch”, not Pitch 5 with the reeds in earshot all night.
From the guest book at reception.
Last season's entries, copied out of the book. No score out of ten — the book has no column for one. What each entry does carry is the berth it was signed from, and whether that berth is free for your dates.
We rowed out before seven and the mist was still on the water. By the time we came back the porch smelled of coffee. I think about that morning at my desk every week.

Taken · free again 16 Aug
Sixty steps from the awning to the pier turned out to be a dangerous number — we stayed two extra nights. Booking them from the phone by the fire took about a minute.

We picked our exact pitch off the map before we left home, and it was precisely where the marker said it would be — reeds, fire ring and all.

The practical part.

Getting here
Forty minutes from Daugavpils; the last three kilometres are gravel and fine for any car. If you come by bus to Aglona, say so — we fetch people from the stop.
Arriving and leaving
Houses from three in the afternoon; plots and pitches whenever you arrive in daylight. Out by eleven — or take the slow morning and keep your berth until three.
Seasons
Houses all year, with wood stoves for the cold half. The van track runs April to October. The meadow opens in May — it floods in the thaw, which is why the grass is so good.
The terms
Payment on arrival, cards or cash. Free cancellation up to seven days before. One dog per berth is welcome; the swans are not negotiable.
